Often, when a comics character loses his/her parents, the loss is mentioned briefly, & never referrred-to again, & the character's behavior is rarely affected. Not so here. Pricilla's sense of loss is real, as is her difficulty in adapting to her new life.

There are comic moments in this amerimanga, but touching ones, too.

The art style is fun, the humor handy & well-done, & the characters are well-rounded.

Dark Moon Diary manga volume 1 eBook Che Gilson Reviews

I found this story to be surprisingly creative for a american manga.
I'm not going to give you a review of the book, you can just read the one above.
This story has creative chracters, altough it doesn't quite break away from the manga mold.
Anyway I did like the story, it was quite charming. With a real (excluding vampires) storyline.
Meaning the characters responded like rational people would, not just turning into insane chibi characters.

Altogether I am hopefully waiting for volume 2. ;)
I found this "manga" to be unexpectedly entertaining. I'm not a fan of American manga, this is the first I've actually liked. The story is a typical kind of cinderella story, girl loses family, goes to live with her aunt, uncle and bratty cousin only to find out their vampires, and so was her mother. She has to make a lot of adjustments, and has a lot of freak outs, especially over food, the lack of human food actually. It's silly and really cute, and has good humour. I'm looking foward to the second volume if Tokyopop ever feels like releasing it.
Meet the story of Priscilla, a fifteen-year-old human whose parents passed away; and having nowhere to go but to her European relatives she will have to endure shocking news. Nachtwald, an European town and her new home is full of ghosts, werewolves, witches, fairies, other type of monsters and vampires… not only that but her aunt and horrible cousin are vampires and her uncle a werewolf!

Priscilla just got to her new home and her cousin, Kitten, a gothic Lolita vampire, calls her an entrée and doesn’t treat her well; and to Pricilla’s surprise Kitten can fly! And that’s when she learns from her aunt Lilith that her mother was a vampire as well. Dinner arrives; always made by Wolfgar her uncle; only to see it was a monster with an open eye. The next day, her cousin Kitten gives her a small tour and for the first time she sees the town people (or should we say creatures?); and when Priscilla goes back home she meets for the first time her Boogey Monster called Broonie who has to hide under things and she likes socks.

Later on, Priscilla finally meets two friends Isabel (a witch) and Radu (a baseball/ athletic werewolf); only to be bothered by Kitten who is jealous because Prince Balthazar Sabinov, which I assume is a vampire, said in front of everyone that he was interested in courting her- and that made Kitten REALLY, really mad and that’s why Priscilla is in a living-hell-high-school.

At the end, Priscilla and her aunt Lilith have a dispute and Priscilla decides to leave. But, when she’s in her way to the airport her uncle Wolfgar gives her a picture of her late mother (which looks like her, only with black hair) and he persuades her to come back and she does.

My thoughts First of all, I really wanted to talk about this awesome manga because even if Tokyopop cancelled it because of low selling rates I know there’s people out there that had the chance, like me, to read this amazing manga. Is a fast reading story, with really cute drawings; you will see Lolita, gothic clothes; funny moments like when Priscilla arrives at a place called “Were-Mart” (and you know which store she is referring to), or when she suddenly eats blackberries from her school bushes… But also about real life such as bullying and everything the main character has to go through after losing her parents moving with relatives, new town and country, new people and simply high-school. My favorite character is Wolfgar because he’s really sweet, loving and understanding. Finally, I hope that you fall in love with this amazing manga… but the bad news is that there’s no volume two!
5/5
*UPDATE, Che Gilson published the second volume!!!
Again, I said "almost" only because this manga contains vampires. You can't deny it. Ever since Twilight hit the scene, vampires are now the *bleep*. However, it wasn't the Twilight crazed that led me to this book. Nope. Instead, it was my love for a good manga. And Dark Moon Diary doesn't disappoint.

Opening the pages for the first time, I was kinda turned off by the art, which (to me) didn't seem as "superior" compared to other mangas I've read. Stupid, I know. But I immediately shook it off & gave this manga a chance...and I'm glad I did. ^_^

Without spoiling everything for ya, Dark Moon Diary tells the (horror slash comedy slash adventure slash drama) tale of a "seemly normal" girl name Priscilla who, after her parents' death, is sent to live with her aunt & uncle (on her mother's side) in Nachtwald. Sounds like a "seemly normal" story, right? WRONG! There's a catch. Priscilla aunt & uncle (and her late mother) are vampires! Holy wooden stakes!!!

If that wasn't shocking enough for Priscilla (including dealing with her new bratty, vamp cousin Kitten), all of Nachtwald is filled with monsters & every other thing that goes bump in the night.

Will Priscilla fit in? Or (like Bella once said) become the meal?
This manga was very good
fun to read,nice art
i Recommend it to everyone
You get your money's Worth

Hope this helps
This is not exactly my genre (if you like Shojo manga, you'll love this), so I cannot make a great review. But I can easily assert that the art is beautiful, there are good characters, and the humor is good.
